15 bulbs of the same type and colour is ideal for a small or medium-sized garden; for a larger garden 30 - 50 would be preferable.
If this sounds like a lot of money, remember that you can often get discounts for buying a large number of bulbs of one type (i.e 25 or 50), especially if you buy from a mail order or on-line catalog. If you buy one colour per year, in 5 or 6 years, you could have 250 to 300 bulbs, for a relatively low outlay, and your spring garden would be outstanding!
